Specialized Bicycle Components is recalling 14,200 bicycles that use a carbon fork that can come apart at the brake attachment.
The carbon forks manufactured by Advanced Group of Taiwan on 10 bike models ranging in price from $700 to $2,000. The company reported two incidents in which the brake mountings failed, left, although no injuries were reported.
The recall is being handled in conjunction with the US Consumer Product Safety Commission.
The agency also announced a recall of 91,000 bicycles of Next brand hybrid-style bicycles manufactured by Bridgeway for distribution in Wal-Mart stores.
The recall was prompted by nearly a dozen reports of chains breaking, causing riders to suffer cuts and bruises.
In both cases, the CPSC urges consumers to stop using the bicycles and to contact the company for repair or replacement.
The 10 Specialized brands included in the recall are Sirrus
Expert, Sirrus Comp, Sirrus Elite, Vita Expert, Vita Comp, Vita Elite,
Vita Elite Step Thru, Tricross Sport, Tricross, and Tricross Comp.
They were sold through Specialized retailers from June 2010 through August 2011.

The Bridgeway bikes, made in China, were sold at Wal Marts from February through July this year for about $100 apiece. The men's 26-inch hybrid bicycles are red or orange with the words “Power X” and “Suspension” displayed on the frame.
