Phil Liggett bike ride rolls through Bellevue

Heading out for a morning bicycle ride, I paused to take a photo of this rather large peloton coming my way on Lake Washington Boulevard in Bellevue.

It wasn't until most of them passed that one of the cyclists told me it was the Phil Liggett bike ride.

I suppose if I had been listening more closely, I could have heard someone saying, “He's dancing on the pedals,” or “The elastic has snapped!”

After wrapping his coverage of the Amgen Tour of California on Sunday, the Versus cycling commentator came up to Seattle to give a lecture Monday night sponsored by the Cascade Bicycle Club Education Foundation.

Those 45 or so who paid an extra fee got to participate in a non-hilly ride around Seattle area. Although the route was a closely held secret, I imagine it involved a counter-clockwise route around the southern half of Lake Washington.

Although it was cloudy and cool in the morning, the weather stayed dry. Perhaps Liggett will keep a warm place in his heart for Seattle.

Anyone who took part in the ride, or heard Liggett last night, is encouraged to leave a comment below.

Here's the front of the Liggett bike ride.
