With the sunny weather and temperatures in the 60s, Saturday was one of the best days for a bicycle ride in western Washington this year.
These guys in red team kit would have to agree. This had to be one of the few times this year they could train on dry pavement and not have to rinse the wet, sticky road grit off their bikes once they returned home.
I shot this from an overpass along the Cedar River Trail between Maple Valley and Renton on Saturday. The river is running high, flowering trees are blossoming and the first leaves are just starting to sprout.
My son, who is home from college, and I took to the Cedar River Trail for this near-perfect day of cycling. He needs to get reacquainted with his bicycle for our upcoming Biking Across Kansas tour.
The organizers suggest participants have about 500 miles in their legs before they start the ride. Right now, my son has 17 miles, but we hope he can get about 100 miles in by June. He's young, and that always makes a difference.
By the way, the chilly, drizzly northwest weather returned on Easter Sunday, so everything is back to normal.
