Updated for 2023 — If you’re a Seattle-area bicycle rider who’s tired of mixing it up with motorists, you can head down to Bicycle Weekends on Lake Washington Boulevard on 10 weekends this summer.
The city has chosen 2 weekends each in May, June, July, August, and September when it will close a 3.1-mile stretch of Lake Washington Boulevard from Seward Park to Mt. Baker Beach. The closure times are from 10 a.m. Saturday to 6 p.m. Sunday. Only local traffic is allowed in and out.
This is a very scenic stretch of the lake that passes Colman Park, Stan Sayres Memorial Park, the Adams Street Boat Launch, the Ferdinand Street Boat Launch as well as Seward Park and Mount Baker Park Beach.
I use this stretch as part of a south Lake Washington loop that crosses the lake on the I-90 Trail — aka Mountains to Sound Greenway. A lot of families will show up and use this for fun rides for the kids. If it ever warms up, you’ll likely find a truck selling frozen treats at Seward Park.
