If you shoot video of your bicycle tours for family and friends, you might want to consider sharing with the bicycle touring community at large.
There might be a little something in it for you.
The Adventure Cycling Association is hosting its second annual Bicycle Travel Video Contest this year “to celebrate the beauty and spirit of bicycle travel.”
If you missed last year’s “Long Distance Tour” winner, check it out here. It proves that you don’t need a lot of time to tell the story of your bike travels. Stefan Böhm of Germany eloquently summarized his six-month tour of Northern Europe in 2 1/2 minutes.
The nonprofit that supports all things related to bicycle travel is hosting the video contest at Vimeo again this year. The deadline is June 30.
Bicycle travelers can submit their videos in three different categories, and they’ll be eligible for five awards:
Best Long Distance Tour Video — Seven minutes or less about a week or longer bicycle tour;
Best Short Tour Video — Three minutes or less about a tour of one to six nights;
Best Portrait of a Traveling Cyclist — Profile yourself or someone else in five minutes or less.
A panel of volunteer judges will choose the winner in each category, as well as the Bike Travel Spirit Award to the video “that they fell best captures the spirit of bicycle travel and touring.”
The category winners receive a two-year membership to Adventure Cycling and a $500 gift certificate for the Cyclosource store. The Travel Spirit Award winner gets a $300 gift certificate to Cyclosource. The videos also will be featured on Adventure Cycling social media sites.
