30 days of biking: Pedaling through the petals

It’s pleasant enough to ride through trail litter if it consists of tiny white flower petals that have fallen off surrounding trees in the spring.

This shady part of the Lake Washington Loop trail in Newcastle runs within 100 feet of noisy, and often congested, traffic on Interstate 405. I wonder how many would choose this path if they could?

I came this way to talk with the guys at the local bike shop about good mountain biking routes in the Seattle area.

I know about the ones in the Issaquah and Woodinville areas, but I was looking for something a little further afield. Black Diamond has some decent singletrack; I still want to find some far away out where the bears shit, if you know what I mean, but still within an easy drive of Seattle.

So a loop to the bike shop and up to the grocery store covered nearly 9 miles. Much better than driving, and it kept my 30 days of biking alive.
