Day 9 of 30 Days of Biking reminded me what it was like when I just a few minutes of daylight to squeeze in a ride.
Nowadays, I can head out on my bicycle anytime while my daughter is in school.
She’s on spring break now, though, so I’m looking after her until my wife gets home for the “hand-off.”
With overcast skies Monday evening, I knew it would get dark early. I blasted downhill to Lake Washington and pedaled along the I-405 bike trails until I dipped down to the Newcastle Beach Park.
Despite its name, the park is in Bellevue, not Newcastle.
On hot summer days it will draw hundreds of people to its swimming beach on Lake Washington. While those days are few and far between, a group of teens took advantage of today’s warm temperatures for an early evening dip while I was there.
Folks like to fish from the pier at the beach also. There’s a warning posted nearby that you may not want to eat everything you catch.
Without the motivation of 30 Days of Biking, I wouldn’t have tried to shoehorn in an 8-mile bike ride this evening. It was pleasant at Newcastle Beach this evening and I’m glad I headed down there. Still, I returned home before dark.
