The North American Handmade Bicycle Show returns to the West Coast this weekend for all those devoted to the elegance and durability of bicycles made in small shops.

The exhibition will be open from 11-6 Friday, 10-6 Saturday and 10-5 Sunday at the Sacramento Convention Center at 1400 J Street.

A bike ride and a bike art event in town are tied to the show.

Bike exhibits

This year's show features more than 170 exhibitors at the convention center, rivaling last year's record-setting showing by 174 in Austin last year. Here's the list of exhibitors.

The show has commonly been drawing 7,000 fans a year, so prepare to arrive early if you want to get a close look at all the bikes. The show hasn't been to the West Coast since 2008, when it appeared in Portland. Since then, the show has been to Indianapolis, Richmond and Austin.

Bike builder, show founder and president Don Walker launched the show in Houston in 2005 with 23 exhibitors.

Other events

In addition to the visiting the show, bike fans can participate in the Mimosa Ride that starts at the convention center at 9 a.m. Sunday and tours around historic downtown Sacramento.

Meanwhile, an exhibition of bicycle-related art is showing in selected establishments around Sacramento. ArtBike! See the ArtBike! schedule for events and locations.
