With the Yuletide still ahead of us, it might seem a little early to be naming names for the 2012 Summer Olympics in London that roll out July 27 to Aug. 12.

But USA Cycling already has announced the “long teams” for men's and women's mountain biking and women's road race.

The track and BMX will be announced in coming months, and the men's road race team will be decided by competitive results of US cyclists in the bicycle races leading up to the Olympics.

Congratulations to the bicyclists from the Pacific Northwest already chosen for the long teams. Among them, Kristin Armstrong, 38, of Boise, Idaho, was chosen for the women's road race team. She won the time trial gold medal in the Beijing Olympics in 2008.

Picked for the men's mountain bike team were Adam Craig, 30, of Bend, Ore. (a member of the 2008 Olympic squad), Spencer Paxson, 27, of Seattle, and Scott Ettinger, 22, of Cashmere, Wash. (See the entire list below.)

USA Cycling, which makes the nominations for the so-called long teams, will announce the rosters for the men's and women's track cycling on Dec. 15. After that, the BMX teams will be announced May 31, 2012 (men) and June 16, 2012 (women).
