An unusually fine November day for a bike ride

As fall becomes winter in the Pacific Northwest, I keep expecting the permanent overcast skies to roll in and bring the drizzle that keeps me in rain gear all winter long.

We've had our share of nasty days already, but Saturday was not one of them. Clear skies and temperatures in the low 50s coaxed me outside on my bicycle. I have to ride my bike on a day like this.

Up on the Sammamish River Trail between Redmond and Woodinville, I pulled off at a bend in the river to snap a photo to commemorate this great day.

The Sammamish River Trail is an 11-mile segment of the Locks to Lake Corridor, a series of bicycle trails stretching 44 miles from Seattle to Issaquah.

In between towns, this trail passes organic farms, sod fields and soccer and baseball parks. There are stunning views of Mt. Rainier on a clear day, like Saturday, and the aroma of cooking hops floated in the air from a local brewery.

Certainly there will be times in the months ahead when I think about this ride as my bike splashes through puddles.
