Bellevue WA hosts more bike rides for input from cyclists

The city of Bellevue is hosting short rides for bicyclists this Saturday and next Wednesday to get some ideas to improve streets and signs for bicycle riders.

They're the second and third such rides recently. Some members of the city's transportation staff rode with cyclists through the busy Factoria-Eastgate Corridor back in July to get some input on making that area more bicycle friendly.

The city explains in a press release:

“The city is launching an effort to update Bellevue's downtown
transportation plan. Adopted in 2004, the plan needs to be modified to
address the rapidly changing transportation environment created by the
new RapidRide bus rapid transit line, East Link light rail, expansion
and tolling on State Route 520 and other projects.

“The bike rides are only the first of what will be many opportunities
for residents and downtown workers to offer feedback, including public
meetings, an interactive website and guided pedestrian audits. The
Transportation Commission will provide guidance and recommendations and
listen to ideas and concerns from the community.”

Saturday's bike ride rolls out from 9 to 11 a.m. from the Top Pot Doughnuts, 10600 NE Ninth Place, and follows a route that includes the library, city hall, the downtown park and old Main Street.

Wednesday's ride rolls out from 5:30 to 7 p.m. and is geared more toward bike commuters who ride into downtown Bellevue. They'll meet at Bellevue Galleria, 106th Avenue Northeast between Northeast 4th and 8th streets, and break up into three groups for loop rides. One will ride northwest toward the SR520 bridge, one will head northeast to the SR 520 trail, and the other heads south toward the I-90 trail.
