Aug. 5, 2011 — A 70-year-old man riding a bicycle in Renton has died of injuries suffered in a collision with a vehicle on Thursday.

He's the third bicyclist to die on roads in King County in the past two weeks.

According to reports, the unidentified man was riding across the 200 block of Logan Avenue North near Renton Memorial Stadium when he was struck by a white SUV at 5  p.m. Thursday. Emergency responders report that he was unconscious when they arrived.

The man was taken to Harborview Medical Center where he was pronounced dead at 12:28 a.m. Friday morning.

The Renton Patch points out that he was traveling east to west, from the vicinity of the Senior Center toward the stadium. The Renton Reporter further locates the collision in the northbound lane.

The SUV was apparently traveling the speed limit, according to police reports, and their investigation is still continuing. The speed limit in the area is 35 mph.

Although police haven't released the man's identity, they told the Renton Reporter that his last known address was Federal Way.

Renton police are asking that witnesses to contact them at 425-430-7500, reference Case 11-7803.

On Thursday last week, Michael Wang, 44, was struck by a hit-and-run motorist in the South Lake Union area of Seattle. Wang was bicycling on Dexter Avenue North when a vehicle turned left in front of him and drove away on Thomas Street. Seattle police are still looking for a brown SUV with tinted windows and chrome roof rack.

Earlier, on July 22, 49-year-old John Przychodzen was struck and killed by a pickup truck as he rode his bicycle on Juanita Drive in Kirkland. No charges have been filed against the 18-year-old motorist, but that collision also is still under investigation.

Our condolences go out to the friends and families of all these fallen cyclists.
