It's only Friday morning, and the first big bicycle ride of the weekend is already underway.
The 30th anniversary RSVP (Ride from Seattle to Vancouver and Party) left the University of Washington parking lot Friday morning for an overnight in Bellingham, before completing the bike trip in Vancouver on Saturday.
For the first time, an overflow ride — RSVP 2 — will take the same route, leaving and arriving a day later.
While it's too late to sign up for that popular ride [you'll need to check the Cascade Bicycle Club website right after New Year's], the relatively newer Ride the Hurricane is still taking registrations for Sunday.
Hurricane Ridge is described by Pez Cycling as one of the “crown jewels” of cycling in the Pacific Northwest, starting at near sea level in Port Angeles and climbing to the 5,242-foot elevation ridge in the Olympic National Park.
Ride the Hurricane allows cyclists to tackle the 17-mile ride up Hurricane Ridge Road without worrying about car traffic, as motor vehicles are prohibited from 7 a.m. until noon on Sunday.
Cyclists can start at either the Heart of the Hills Campground or the Visitors Center. They just need to start coasting downhill by 11:30 a.m.

Two big 3-day charity bike rides will be out on the road this weekend as well.
The Get Your Guts in Gear, which raises money for the Crohn's and Colitis Foundation of America, left Edmonds on Friday for a tour of Whidbey Island and the Skagit Valley.
On Saturday, the Courage Classic starts in Snoqualmie to tackle three passes in 172 miles over the next three days.
Meanwhile, in Eastern Washington, the 8 Lakes Leg Aches Bike Ride from Spokane to Medical Lakes to Cheney is poised to start on Saturday.
