Cyclists meet up in Tribune

More than 900 cycling enthusiasts from across Kansas converged on Tribune Friday for the start of Biking Across Kansas.
Those of us who pitched our tents under the water tower or slept on bedrolls in the high school gym more than doubled the population of this west Kansas wheat belt town.
The first night is when B.A.K. vets catch up with old friends. All were glad to see B.A.K. owner Charlie Summers back on his feet to "vacation" on this tour after recovering from a stroke in November. A committee headed by Denise Duerksen is handling all the arrangements this year.
Although the ride starts in earnest on Saturday, many rode the 16 miles west to the Colorado border Friday afternoon.
