Maybe I shouldn't go out on a limb here, but sources tell me that meteorological and cosmic forces are coming together for a good weekend for bicycling in the Pacific Northwest.
In other words, temperatures in the 50s and 60s with no precipitation.
You can certainly head out on your own, or you can visit some organized bike rides this weekend. I checked out the April and May bike ride calendars to see what's happening and found three coming up this weekend and more in the future.
Unfortunately, procrastinators will learn that registration for Tour de Lopez 2011 on Saturday has closed. Of course, I suppose you catch the ferry from Anacortes to San Juan Island for a bike ride on your own.
There are a couple of choices on Sunday.
The 19th Annual Rhody Bike Tour is Sunday in Port Townsend. You can register at the start at Haines Place Park and Ride on Sunday from 8 to 10 a.m. The Port Townsend Bicycle Association offers four longer options of 32 to 65 miles, as well as a 12-mile family ride. Details at the Rhody Tour website.
Also on Sunday, Phil's South Side Cyclery (see map) in Federal Way is presenting the May Day Metric 2011. There are three options: 50-mile Ho-Ho-Ville Route, the 72-mile Twinkie Land Route, or the 104-mile Ding Dong Station Mountain Route. The Active.com registration website notes that registration closes at midnight Friday.
If these rides don't work for you, there are some free Cascade Bicycle Club rides offered this weekend for members everyone.
