Don't you think your kids would enjoy riding their bikes through the woods this weekend? It just so happens that Saturday is International Take Your Kid Mountain Biking Day.

In the Seattle area, the Trips for Kids program by Cascade Bicycle Club and Evergreen Mountain Bike Alliance are hosting a free guided ride and jump jam at Duthie Hill Park near Issaquah and Sammamish.

Jill Kintner, (above right) the 2008 Olympic bronze medalist in BMX and former Kirkland resident, will be among those on hand to ride with the kids.

Registration opens at 9:30 a.m. and the rides begin at 10 a.m. You can also sign up for Take Your Kid Mountain Biking Day at the Evergreen MTB website.

In addition to Kintner, mountain biking video star Phil Sundbaum and Diamonback cyclist Billy Lewis will lead rides. A free barbecue is offered at noon, followed by a jump performance with Kintner, Sundbaum, Lewis and the local mountain bike teams Dirt Corps and Team 529

There's also a drawing for a Diamondback Dirt Jump bike, Norco Bike/Mace shin guards and flak jackets, helmets and other bike themed prizes.

Take a Kid Mountain Biking Day is sponsored by the International Mountain Biking Association and memorializes Jack Doub, an avid teenage mountain biker from North Carolina who had a true passion for the sport from an early age but passed away in 2002.

Duthie Hill Park is a 120-acre mountain bike park located on Duthie Hill Road. Directions:

From I-90 east, take Exit 18, East Sunset Way – Highlands Drive. Stay left on Highlands Drive and follow for 2.1 miles. Turn right onto Issaquah-Fall City Road and follow for 2 miles. At Endeavor Elementary School, the road becomes Duthie Hill Road. Follow it for one mile and turn right into the park. There is a small parking lot next to the maintenance shop.
