This can be a busy weekend for two-wheeled, human-powered adventurers in Washington state.

We're talking at least six recreational bike rides (four in Puget Sound region), a couple of bike races in Seattle and clear weather Saturday and only 40% chance of rain on Sunday.

Saturday

A new bike ride launching Saturday is the LifeCycle Bremerton, a fund-raiser for the American Red Cross. The West Sound Cycling Club, which has plenty of experience putting on first-rate bike rides over in Kitsap, are helping to present this ride. Options run from 3 to 60 miles.

Two rides are rolling out in Wenatchee, the Apple Century Bike Ride and the Apple Loop Trail Adventure. The rides help fund two-year scholarships presented by the Wenatchee Sunrise Rotary Club. The century rolls out of Walla Walla Point Park and rolls upriver to Silver Falls. The shorter ride follows the Apple Capital Loop trail along the Columbia River.

On Saturday afternoon, the Second Ascent Twilight Criterium bike race is meeting in downtown Ballard on a closed course along Ballard Avenue NW, NW Dock Place, Shilshole Avenue NW and NW Vernon Place. Streets are closed beginning at 2:30 and races being between 3:30 and 7:30 p.m.

Sunday

It's back to Kitsap County on Sunday with the Peninsula Metric Century presented by the Tacoma Wheelmen. Bicyclists can choose between 29, 44, 62 or 100 mile rides leaving from either Gig Harbor or the Southworth Ferry Terminal.

Up north the Fort2Fort Bike Ride starts in Port Townsend for those who like a little history with their bicycling. The options of 17, 42 or 65 miles start at Fort Worden and proceed to either Old Fort Townsend or Fort Flagler.

In Pierce County, the Wheels to Meals bike ride for the St. Leo Food Connection gets underway. The rides of 20 to 56 miles around the Puyallup Valley start at the WSU Puyallup Research and Extension Center just west of downtown Puyallup.

Meanwhile, over in Seattle's University District, the Brad Lewis Memorial Criterium will be rolling out all day Sunday from 8 a.m. to 7 p.m. along NE Pacific Street, Brooklyn Avenue NE and NE Boat Street.

Don't forget that Bicycle Sundays is underway along Lake Washington Boulevard between Seward Park and Mount Baker Beach most Sundays this spring and summer. The street is closed to vehicular traffic from 10 a.m. to 6 p.m.
