Tour Tracker returns for 2010 Tour of California

One of the coolest things about the Amgen Tour of California is how the real-time video coverage and other bike race information is streamed online at the website.

Since its inception in 2006, bike race organizers have offered Tour Tracker by Adobe at the website so those without access to TV can watch the entire bike race.

Tour Tracker has returned to the Tour of California this year so that desk jockeys can follow the action of the bicycling road warriors through the race.

Improvements

Coverage was spotty and not always a pretty sight during the race's inaugural year in 2006. Since then, the Adobe team and organizers have improved the Tour Tracker to offer a better look and more reliable service.

Some of the features available this year:

— Streaming video in standard, full screen or a broadcast size takes center stage.

— On the right-hand sidebar you'll find the racers in the break identified and positions of the leaders of the peloton.

— On the left, you'll have updated race status such as time elapsed, distance ridden and distance to go, time gaps, average speed and more. Below that is the online text feed from VeloNews which viewers can watch if they're afraid to listen to the Phil Ligget and Paul Sherwen audio commentary too loud while at work. There's also a chat line available on the left.

— The bike race route is shown in profile across the bottom of the screen.

— There also are tabs to standings, stage maps, race photos and video highlights.

The live play-by-play updates also are available on mobile phones by going to http://mobile.amgentourofcalifornia.com. More information at the Tour of California website.

Tour Tracker also has made appearances at the Tour of Georgia and Tour of Missouri. The Georgia bike race is extinct and the Tour of Missouri is currently fighting for its life.
