Bicycle promise an early indicator of bad marriage?

We all know South Carolina Gov. Mark Sanford as the guy who told his staff he was hiking the Appalachian Trail when instead he was paying a visit to his Argentinian mistress.

Now his wife, Jenny Sanford, has published a book, “Staying True,” that tells her life with the governor.

There's one odd episode involving a bike. Here it is as reported by a columnist for the Winter Haven (FL) News-Chief:

“On Jenny's first birthday after marriage, Mark made her a homemade card and drew half of a bicycle. She was perplexed; she thought she was getting a bicycle so she could ride the streets of Charleston. Mark explained she would get the second half of the bicycle (drawing) for Christmas. And she did. Still no bicycle. Months later, he brought home a used purple bicycle, for which he had paid $25.”

Note to self: If you leave the impression you're going to get someone a bike, get a nice one and get it right away.
