Bicycle taken in armed robbery at Issaquah bike shop

Bike theft rose to a whole new level in Issaquah, Washington, recently when a man flashed a gun at a bike shop employee as he left with an expensive racing bike.

The bike was a Pineralla Dogma tricked out with the best components. News accounts put the value at $11,000.

You might want to think twice before buying such a bike for a price that seems too good to be true. It might be stolen.

A surveillance video shows a man fiddling with the bike that was on display near the front door at Veloce Velo on Front Street. When an employee went to check him out, he saw that the man was trying to put on two right pedals.

The man then asked the worker the price, shoved him away and took off with the bike. The employee told KOMO news:

“He was kind of like, I'm taking this, showed me the gun, and (said), 'If you don't want to get hurt, let me go.'”

The staff says it appears more than one person was involved in the theft. The previous day, a couple of men were in the store for about an hour looking at bikes and appeared to be checking to see how easily they could be removed from storage racks.

Here's a TV report from KING 5 news:

Meanwhile, in Portland, burglars cleaned out a bike shop before it ever opened. Thanks to the generosity of bicycling enthusiasts there, however, many of his tools and other equipment will be replaced.
