“Every part of the trail is fascinating.”
— A quote from Caitlin Truesdale, a ninth-grader at Pingree High School in Peabody, Massachusetts, who won the Bikeway Naming Essay Contest.
She chose to name the 4.6-mile trail the Peabody Independence Gateway. The bikeway has been in the works for 19 years. It cost $192,000 to design and $3 million to build.
The story in The Salem News doesn't explain why she chose the name, or what she said in the essay, except to say, “Every part of the trail is fascinating.”
Isn't that a great attitude to have about a bike trail through your town? Imagine the wonder and amazement she'll experience if she ever gets the chance to ride her bicycle on the East Coast Greenway or the TransAmerica Trail. I hope she gets the opportunity.
