Even the official website of the Vuelta a Espana couldn't hype the action on Tuesday's Stage 16:
“The 170 kilometres between Córdoba and Puertollano were without a doubt the most uneventful ones of the Vuelta. Right at the start, the compact peloton climbed up Alto de los Villares, and as soon as they went over the top, Andalucía-CajaSur rider Jesús Rosendo attacked.
“And that was the story for the next 150 kilometres.”
Columbia's Andre Greipel won the stage, his third in this Vuelta, and Caisse d'Epargne's Alejandro Valverde his maintained his 31-second lead over Robert Gesink.
US cyclist Tom Danielson, 31, remains in 9th place overall, 8:28 out of first place. Garmin-Slipstream manager Jonathan Vaughters had the best quote from today's stage at Twitter:
“Tommy D sticking it out shows he may be ready for the pressure of the Tour in 2010. We need guys that laugh at stomach flu.“
Ha ha! Way to go Tom! Danielson came down with the flu over the weekend during the arduous mountain stages. He dropped a few places but obviously soldiers on.
Can't wait to see Tom in the Tour de France next year.
Meanwhile, Garmin's Julian Dean got pushed into the barriers on the sprint Tuesday and collided with a spectator. New Zealand's Road Cycling reports that their local cycling hero is OK.
