Not since former President Bush crashed into some security guards in Scotland has there been so much coverage of a non-competitive bicycle accident.

This morning the news is Today show host Matt Lauer's “run-in” with a deer while riding on Long Island over the weekend.

According to reports, a deer leapt in front of the 51-year-old TV celebrity, who braked, fell off his bike and landed on his shoulder. He missed the show today due to his injuries.

About three years ago, then President Bush was tooling around on his bicycle at the G8 Summit in Scotland when he waved to some police officers who were posting at an intersection he was passing through. When he took his hand off the handlebar, he lost control of the bike, fell and skidded along the road for about 15 feet, suffering “a few abrasions.”
