Oregon Handmade Bicycle Show in the fall

Now that the 2009 North American Handmade Bicycle Show is history, the Oregon Bicycle Constructors Association says it will hold its own show for handbuilt bicycles this fall.

The Oregon Handmade Bicycle Show on Oct. 31 and Nov. 1 will be the association's second such show (the first was in 2007). Members plan for it to become an annual show in the future.

The non-profit trade group in Oregon promotes hand-built bicycles, and its members had the opportunity to display their wares at the NAHBS that's been held on the West Coast the past couple of years.

NAHBS show owner Dan Walker moved the three-day event to Indianapolis this year, however, and announced plans to keep it east of the Mississippi River for the next couple of years.

Having an Oregon-based hand-built bicycle show will enable the smaller bicycle makers from the Pacific Northwest to have a showcase for their products without traveling a great distance.

Since this year's event starts on Halloween, the show features a constume party with refreshments supplied by the HUB brewery.

OBCA is still negotiating for a location, although it will probably be in the industrial area of northwest Portland. You can find updates at the Oregon Bicycle Construction Association webpage for location, times and list of exhibitors.

Seattle Expo

If you can't wait until this fall, check out the Seattle Bike Expo at Magnuson Park on March 14 and 15. Ten framebuilders from Oregon will be on display at OBCA's 1,200 square foot Oregon pavillion.
