Congratulations to Taylor Phinney on winning gold in the 4km individual pursuit and the 1km  in cycling's Track World Cup in Copenhagen.

On Friday, Phinney set a 4:15.223-minute mark in the qualifying round that broke by 4 seconds a 13-year-old US track cycling record; his winning time in the gold medal round was 4:19.119 to beat Ireland's David O'Loughlin.

On Saturday, he won the 1km track event, setting another US record in a qualifying rounds.

The 18-year-old from Colorado is the son of two cycling gold medal winners in the 1984 Olympics, Davis Phinney and Connie Carpenter-Phinney. He's a member of the under-23 Trek-Livestrong team (more here), owned by Lance Armstrong and directed by Axel Merckx.

VeloNews says the Phinney credits his back-to-back training camps with Trek-Livestrong and the USA Cycling development program with his success.

The 6-foot-4 Phinney is no stranger to the top step of the podium, however. He's won gold at the junior Worlds in 2007 and 2008 and 3 gold medals in the US National Track Championships at the elite level in 2008.

Phinney competed at the 2008 Summer Olympics in Beijing, as well, earning 7th place in the individual pursuit.
