US cyclist Amber Neben wins world championship in women's time trial

Congratulations to US cyclist Amber Neben for winning the women's time trial at the 2008 World Championships in Varese, Italy, on Wednesday.

Neben won the individual race over the 15.6-mile course by seven seconds over Christiane Soeder of Austria.

Neben, 34, was a member of the US Olympic cycling team in Beijing. She lives in Irvine, California.

Kristin Armstrong finished in fifth place, 25 seconds behind Neben. The US cyclist from Boise, Idaho, who won the gold medal in the individual women's time trial in Beijing in August.

The other US cyclist in the time trial was Christine Thorburn, who finished in 12th place, 1:17 behind.

The men's individual time trial at the UCI World Championship's is scheduled for Thursday. Levi Leipheimer and David Zabriskie from the US are competing, and both have a chance of winning the event.

Leipheimer is coming off of two individual time trial victories at the Vueta a Espana this month and Zabriskie won the US time trial championship in Greenville, South Carolina, over the Labor Day weekend.
