Look Cycles is recalling about 40,000 pairs of KéO Bicycle Pedals because the steel axle can break, causing the potential for fall and injury.

The San Jose-based distributor of the French-made pedals has received 14 reports of pedals breaking, including seven incidents which led to minor injuries, according to the Consumer Product Safety Commission.

The black bicycle pedals were sold at specialty bicycle retailers across the US from January 2004 to July 2007 for $100 to $500.

According to the CPSC, pedal models include:

KéO Classic, KéO Sprint, KéO HM and KéO Carbon. The model name is printed in white on the side of the pedal. Date codes between January 2004 and December 2005 are included in this recall. The date code for the KéO Classic, Sprint and Carbon pedals is on a dial stamped onto the pedal. The date code for the KéO HM is on the bottom of the pedal, with the letters A through L corresponding to the month, and the numbers 4 and 5 indicating 2004 or 2005.

Anyone who has these pedals on their bikes should stop using them immediately and return them to the bike retailer or contact Look Cycle USA for shipping and free repair.

You can contact Look USA toll-free at (866) 430-5665 between 8 a.m. and 5 p.m. PT Monday through Friday. Also, check out the Look USA website.
