Owners of the Interbike International Bicycle Expo and Outdoor Demo have completed two years of research and surveys to find a new home for the giant bicycle trade show. Their decision — Las Vegas baby!
Not only is Interbike not leaving Las Vegas, but it's signing a contract to remain at the Sands Expo and Convention Center for at least three more years, beginning in 2010.
Personally, I was surprised that Interbike ever considered leaving Vegas. I mean where else can you find so many potential booth babes? But some exhibitors expressed interest in a more bike friendly city.
Options
Based on its criteria for exhibit space, hotel availability, a site for outdoor demo, and more, the Interbike folks came up with several cities, such as Denver, Salt Lake City and Anaheim.
Surveys of retailers, however, revealed that most of them were satisfied with the show. Further, 45% preferred Las Vegas, 36% Denver and 19% Anaheim.
Stay put
Finally, Interbike shared its findings with many in the bike industry and they agreed to that it should remain in Las Vegas. According to a press release:
“Interbike did a great job of sharing their survey results and other research,” said Tim Blumenthal, executive director of Bikes Belong. “After so many years in Las Vegas, the simple idea of a new host city is appealing, but the data shows that retailers and suppliers still prefer this city for a variety of good reasons. Thus, we support the decision to stay for the next few years.”
The 2008 Interbike trade-only show begins with the Outdoor Demo, Sept. 22-23 in Boulder City, followed by the expo at the Sands Convention Center from Sept. 24-26. An East Coast outdoor demo is scheduled for Oct. 21-22 at the Roger Williams Park in Providence, RI.
