A man suspected of robbing 11 mostly Atlanta area banks and making his getaways by bicycle has been arrested by police in Roswell, Georgia.
Police wouldn't say what led them to Carlos H. Arango-Mejia, 47, of Doraville. He was arrested at his home Wednesday night and immediately booked on two area bank robberies from last spring.
Known as the bicycle bandit, the man typically wore a disguise during a robbery and handed a note to a teller demanding money. He'd leave on a bicycle; police found one getaway bike nearby after a robbery. The bikes were believed to be stolen.
The most recent bank robbery attributed to the man involved a bank in South Carolina last week, according to the Atlanta Journal-Constitution.
An earlier bicycle bandit bank-robbing spree ended in Florida in September. Police arrested Bruce David Voss after a robbery, but he hung himself in jail soon afterwards. He was linked to 28 robberies in 16 states.
