An importer is recalling about 5,700 disc brakes typically mounted on mountain bikes.
Perigeum Development, doing business as Formula Brake USA, is recalling the Oro disc brakes because the brake's lever can separate, causing loss of braking ability. Six reports of failures have resulted in no injuries.
The brakes, manufactured by Italy-based Formula SRL, were sold at bicycle specialty stores from May 2005 through July 2007 for $180 to $320.
They include the models Oro K18, Oro K24, Oro Puro and Oro Bianco with serial numbers less than 295237. The serial number can be located on the brake's body above the “Made in Italy” label.
Consumers should immediately contact their local Formula brake dealer for a replacement. Check the Formula USA Brake website or the CPSC for more details.
Huffy bike recall
Meanwhile, Huffy is recalling about 22,000 bicycles sold at Kmart because the cranks can fall off.
The CPSC says the 2007 Huffy “Howler” and “Highland” Bicycles were made in China and distributed in the US by Huffy. They sold for $80 to $100 at Kmarts nationwide.
Huffy was notified about two instances of the cranks coming off, resulting in one injury.
Consumers should stop using the bikes and contact Huffy to find out how to tighten the cranks. Call the toll-free number at (888) 366-3828 between 8 a.m. and 4:30 p.m. (ET) Monday through Friday, or visit the Huffy website.
