If you rode your bicycle in Vancouver this weekend, there's a good chance that Lance Armstrong was riding nearby.

Armstrong helped draw cyclists to the inaugural Tour of Courage charity ride in Vancouver this weekend to raise some $2 million for the B.C. Cancer Foundation.

Hundreds of cyclists raised more than $1,000 each for the privilege to ride with Lance Armstrong at the event on Sunday; 50 high-rollers raised an average $21,000 each to ride with him on a bike ride on Saturday.

The charity ride comprised two 15-kilometer loops around the BC college campus, with longer excursions for the 60- and 90-kilometer riders. They returned to Thunderbird stadium for refreshments after the ride.

The fund-raiser ride was the brainchild of Sindi Hawkins, who read one of Armstrong's books while she battled leukemia.

According to the CTV website, proceeds from the weekend events will go toward research led by Dr. Clay Smith in the Terry Fox Laboratory at the BC Cancer Agency and head of the Leukemia and Bone Marrow Transplant Program of B.C.

Armstrong next makes an appearance at the LiveStrong Challenge in Portland on Sept. 29-30.
