Australian authorities have apparently solved the mystery of a missing European tourist when his skeletal remains were found next to his bicycle in a remote part of Queensland.

The remains of the 47-year-old Slovenian were discovered by a helicopter pilot who first saw the bicycle, then spotted the body. Police found the skeleton, clad in a tracksuit.

The unidentified man was last seen in June 2006 in Quilpie.  He had entered the country on the coast at Brisbane and was heading inland. He had purchased the Repco brand bike in Charleville about two days before he was last seen, according to a story in the CourierMail.

The area where the body was found, about 40 miles west of Windorah, is approaching the Simpson Desert National Park and the route of the annual Simpson Desert Bike Challenge, a 5-day race over dunes and around salt lakes in the outback.
