Zabriskie and Vande Velde picked for Tour de France rosters

Following up on Thursday's post about US cyclists picked for 2007 Tour de France team rosters, Team CSC has chosen David Zabriskie and Christian Vande Velde.

Pending further changes, six US cyclists will race in the 2007 Tour de France.

Team CSC did not pick Bobby Julich for this year's Tour bike race; T-Mobile chose neither Aaron Olson or Canadian Michael Barry.

Zabriskie is the US time trial champion and finished 5th overall in the week-long Dauphine Libere earlier this month, surviving the many climbs of that bike race. A teammate, Fabian Cancellara, is the world time trial champ.

A Utah native, 28-year-old Zabriskie became just the third American to wear the yellow jersey when he won Stage 1 of the 2005 Tour de France. That was his first year with Team CSC, after competing with Lance Armstrong's US Postal Service's team in 2003 and 2004.

Vande Velde, 31, competed in the Tour de France last year, finishing in 24th place; he won the Tour of Luxembourg in 2006.

Not racing in this year's Tour, Julich is an old hand at the Tour. The 35-year has finished as high as third place in that bike race in 1998. In recent years, he won Paris-Nice in 2005 and finished in 17th overall in the Tour de France. Last year he suffered a bad crash and did not finish.

Unless there are last minute changes, the US riders in this year's Tour de France are:

Zabriskie (Team CSC)

Vande Velde (Team CSC)

Levi Leipheimer (Discovery)

George Hincapie (Discovery)

Chris Horner (Predictor-Lotto)

Freddy Rodriguez (Predictor-Lotto)

See VeloNews' EuroFile for rosters from Milram, Team CSC, Astana, T-Mobile, and Saunier-Duval.
