If you've already seen and heard enough of Floyd Landis, well, you ain't seen nothin' yet.
Landis' book, “Positively False: The Real Story of How I Won the Tour de France,” comes out June 26 and he'll immediately start a book-signing tour that will take him to bookstores across the country.
I'd expect Landis, and maybe co-author Lauren Mooney of Bicycling magazine, to appear on radio and TV talk shows as well.
And don't forget Landis's doctor, Arnie Baker. One of the architect's of Landis's online defense is publishing an online ebook on June 26, entitled “The Wiki Defense. How the French Lab (LNDD) & US Anti-Doping Agency Botched Floyd's Test.” You can find it at the Arnie Baker Cycling website.
To be honest, I don't know what's left to say about this case. I'll bet many Landis followers feel they might be able to write this book on their own from what they've been hearing from the 2006 Tour de France winner since samples came back positive shortly after the Tour and he launched a very public defense of the charges.
Earlier I had written (“That Floyd Landis book“) that the first part of the book deals with Landis' growing-up years, then the 2006 Tour and his incredible Stage 17 victory, then the doping charges and his defense.
According to an excerpt of the opening pages at Amazon.com, Landis comes out swinging right away:
“I ended up making a living in a sport where a bunch of men wear spandex and shave their legs — and that's not even the funny part. The funny part is that cycling and its anti-doping program are run by people so incompetent they couldn't even run a Ralphs grocery store.”
Of course, the final chapter of the book hasn't been written yet; we're still waiting to hear the judgment of the arbitration panel. Given the lead time to publish a book, maybe it ends without the case resolved.
