My efforts to save gas money, curb global warming, stay fit and have fun by riding a bicycle paid off in May to the tune of 355 miles.
I feel that I could have done more, but there was a family camping trip and some lower g.i. problems that impeded by progress over Memorial weekend.
The majority of these miles were logged as pleasure riding, such as along the eastside Lake Washington bike trail, above (it looks scenic, but Interstate 405 is less than 100 feet to the right). A good portion also was due to errand-running.
In January, after realizing that my 2006 mileage totaled a paltry 2,000 miles, I announced that I would bicycle 4,000 miles in 2007. Unfortunately, May is the first month that I've hit, and exceeded, my monthly target of 333 miles.
Until we came home from a Memorial Day weekend overnight at a family camp, I was looking forward to 400 miles or more for the month. But I must have eaten the wrong thing at this camp. Let's just say I didn't consider it prudent to be more than a minute or two from a bathroom for a couple of days.
Here's the tale of the tape. Read it and weep, Bis. You gotta put a lot more miles in the bank before you're at the break-even point.
