The 2008 7 Hills of Kirkland is Monday, May 26. Weather forecast is partly cloudy; daytime high 72.

Day-of-event registration is $50, $55 or $60, depending on bike ride option.

Pedaling along Lake Washington Boulevard in Kirkland this afternoon, I stumbled across a series of Dan Henry circles with the No. 7 inside.

Seven hills, count 'em…..

It reminded me that the 7 Hills of Kirkland bike ride is coming up on Monday. (It also reminded me I had neglected to put it in the Biking Bis bike ride calendar for Washington state.)

In its ninth year, this popular ride skirts the eastside of Lake Washington and the inland hills sculpted by glaciers eons ago.

The traditional 7 hills ride is about 38 miles long and hits these high points: Market Hill, Juanita Hill, Seminary Hill, Norway Hill, Kingsgate Hill, Winery Hill, and Rose Hill. Total elevation gain is about 3,028 feet.

If you want more hills, there's the metric century with 11 hills (4,600 feet of climbing), and there's a full century with 14 hills (7,000 feet of elevation gain) that juts into Snohomish County.

To register

The ride starts at Kirkland's Marina Park (here's a map), 25 Shore Lake Plaza, Kirkland.

You'll have to go there to register, as online registration closed on Friday and mail-ins closed a long time ago. The course opens at 7 a.m. and closes about 4:30.

All the money goes to Kirkland Interfaith Transitions in Housing, which helps homeless families on the Eastside.
