Update April 21, 2008 — “Tour de Georgia 2008; Stage 1 and links to watch” (links for TourTracker and WCSN video streaming)

The Tour de Georgia, for the first time ever, will offer live video streaming of the bike race that begins Monday and runs through April 22.

That's good news for anyone who wants to see more of the race than the minute-by-minute updates from VeloNews and CyclingNews or wait a week or more to see the action on Versus.

The Georgia bike race will use the same Tour Tracker interface that brought rave reviews during this year's Amgen Tour of California. Viewers can get live streaming video, live streaming audio, live GPS tracking of the peloton and race leaders on a map, text updates from CyclingNews, and heart rate and speed/cadence measurements downloaded from a few chosen riders.

As I recall, the Tour Tracker had a slow start during the Tour of California, because of several bugs that had to be worked out early on. But I thoroughly enjoyed the coverage it offered, even when the video feed sometimes broke down because of the terrain or weather.

The Tour de Georgia website also is offering daily video highlights, a video overview produced by Kent Gordis Productions, photo galleries, and of course results of the General Classification, King of the Mountain, Sprint, Best Young Rider and Most Aggressive competitions.

Follow this Tour Tracker link for more information at the Tour de Georgia website.

Versus coverage 1 week later

The Versus network (OLN in Canada) is expanding its post-race converage to include a two-hour Saturday show, in addition to its one-hour Sunday Cyclysm coverage, according to a press release.

The dates for the Versus Tour de Georgia coverage is a full week after the race, however.

Versus will broadcast Stages 1-4 of the Tour from 5-7 p.m. (ET) Saturday, April 28, and Stages 5-7 from 5-6 p.m. (ET) on Sunday, April 29.

The Amstel Gold, listed for April 22 on the Cyclysm Sunday schedule, appears to have been pre-empted by bull-riding on the regular schedule.
