If you're looking to take your interest in bicycling to a professional level, here are some advocacy jobs I've stumbled across recently.
Napa County, California
The Napa County Bicycle Coalition, a grassroots bicycle advocacy group, is looking for a part-time executive director.
NCBC chairman Lou Penning told the St. Helena Star that it has a $60,000 grant that it received from the Eagles Cycling Club of Napa Valley to pay for the post. The group is looking for someone to keep up with the county and local governments and work with the Napa County Office of Education to apply for a $500,000 “Safe Routes to School” grant from Caltrans.
The NCBC is a member of the Thunderhead Alliance. The contact is Lou Penning, napabc@sbcglobal.net, 707-255-8129.
Burlington, Vermont
Local Motion is a non-profit that promotes bicycling, running, walking, in-line skating, etc. The group is looking for a full-time manager to supervise five other managers and directly manage the trail development program. Although the person reports to the executive director, the manager will serve as interim exec director during a five-month sabbatical.
The salary is $32,000 to $40,000, depending on experience. The Local Motion website has a full job description (.pdf).
Washington DC
The 25,000-member League of American Bicyclists has openings for three positions.
The bicycle group is seeking a development director to develop, implement and oversee the organization’s fundraising; a finance manager is needed to process income and accounts payable, prepare financial statements, budgets, audits and similar duties; an entry-level membership assistant is being sought to sort mail and provide other administrative support duties. Follow the links for details about each job.
Good luck.
