Can't get away from this Lance-ness

This might be old news to many, but it was a surprise to me because I'm so behind in my movie watching. I picked up “You, Me and Dupree” the other day and who makes a cameo appearance but Lance Armstrong.

The movie came out earlier this year, but I don't remember hearing about it. It's for rent on the two-day shelf, so it must be a recent DVD release.

Essentially, the movie is about Dupree (Owen Wilson) who moves in with his just married friend, Matt Dillon, and his wife, Kate Hudson.

Dupree is a complete loser. He seeks to better himself by training on an old Schwinn bicycle. After reading “It's not about the Bike” he becomes obsessed with Armstrong.

In one scene, Dillon imagines Dupree and his wife together on a boat. Armstrong is there and offers Dupree some butter (you'll have to see the movie if you want to know why).

At the end of the movie, after 5 minutes of credits roll by, Armstrong makes another appearance. The scene is quite clever, and I don't want to ruin it.

A few years ago I was surprised to see Armstrong in another movie, “Dodgeball, a True Underdog Story” (yeah, I know, I watch all the classics). He had more lines in an exchange with Vince Vaughn, including this bit (from IMDB):

“Quit? You know, once I was thinking of quitting when I was diagnosed with brain, lung and testicular cancer all at the same time. But with the love and support of my friends and family, I got back on the bike and won the Tour de France five times in a row. But I'm sure you have a good reason to quit. So what are you dying of that's keeping you from the finals?”

Five times? Well, this was released in 2004.

Meanwhile, nothing new on the Armstrong biopic to be directed by Frank Marshall. The Internet Movie Database does show it in pre-production for 2007, which moves it ahead of some other Marshall projects like “Indiana Jones 4” and “Jurassic Park 4”, both scheduled for 2008. Jake Gyllenhaal is still rumored to play Armstrong.
