“Don't be afraid to ask if you can pitch your tent on someone's private land. Asking for someone's hospitality is something no person should be shy about; besides, it is a good way to meet new people.”
Canadians Benoit Cote and Genevieve Fortin giving some tips about bicycle travel. The two are bicycle touring in Thailand on their around-the-world trip. They've visited 5 of the 12 countries they plan to visit during the three-year adventure.
Some other tips:
Learn the language of the country you're in;
Nutritious snacks and fresh fruits are helpful when cycling through remote areas;
Leave time for spontaneity;
Join a group like Warm Showers, a worldwide organization that lists potential hosts for touring bicyclists.
The two also tell some of their experiences with food poisoning, sea sickness, spider bites, cobra confrontations and mechanical breakdowns. Very entertaining.
