Pretty bicycles. Fast bicycles. Utilitarian bicycles. Comfort bicycles. Bicycle professionals visiting the Interbike International Bicycle Expo in Las Vegas this week shot lots of pictures of lots of bicycles.
I've saved a few off of flickr.com and posted them here with descriptions. There are hundreds more at flickr.com under the tag “Interbike 2006.”
Calfee Designs of La Selva Beach, California, brought its award-winning bamboo bike to Interbike. Calfee uses black bamboo that is said to have excellent vibration dampening properties. What's with the handlebar, though? A cow horn? More about the bamboo bikes at Calfee Design website.
Ellsworth International was showing it's Ride and Enjoy series of bicycles at the trade show. Not only do these bikes aim for comfort and style, but they feature the NuVinci hub technology that's supposed to allow very easy shifting, even when stopped. Here's a press release on the NuVinci hub system; the Ellsworth website still focuses on the Ramona, California-based company's mountain bikes.
A Bianchi track bike, the Pista, was among those shown by the fabled Italian bike maker at Interbike. The company says a Pista-style was the first style it made 121 years ago. The Pista is still engineered specifically for track riding; not a road bike that's been modified. More at Bianchi.
SyCip (pronounced see-sip) Designs sent this built-out frame to Interbike from its shop in Sonoma County, California. The company, which has been around since 1992, custom builds all styles of road, mountain, cyclocross, cruisers, and more. This commuter has front and rear racks. Many more styles at the SyCip website.
What's up with Surrey, British Columbia-based Floyd Cycles? This looks like a futuristic motorcycle with fenders that nearly wrap around the entire wheel. Floyd Cycles is a startup that uses his model to get some attention; Speedgoat Bicycles tells us it was merely built to show the company's capabilities. The bike fashion and cruiser company does sell a female comfort bike called the Rosewood; I'm betting this could be its mate.
