Business blogging from Interbike bike expo

Tim Jackson's excellent blog at Masiguy received a well-deserved mention in a New York Times article on Wednesday about bloggers who write — sometimes critically — about their business.

Jackson is brand manager for Masi Bicycles. He not only writes about his company's products, but other issues in cycling, such as doping.

It made me wonder, what are Jackson and his brethren blogging about from the Interbike International Bike Expo in Las Vegas this week?

Jackson takes a few self-deprecating jabs for putting off too much of the Interbike preparation until the last minute:

“This week has been such a stressful nightmare and almost exclusively due to my own mistakes; poor planning, poor organization and regular old procrastination. Sure, there were a few things out of my control, but the bulk of the stress was a self-inflicted wound.”

Alan Snel, marketing director for Carrollwood Bicycle Emporium and Oliver's Cycle Sports bike store in Tampa, writes about the surreal scene of the Bicycle Pushers of the Venetian.”

“What an odd sight this morning as I'm walking through the vast, carpeted corridors of The Venetian hotel — a herd of people in shorts and jeans rolling bicycles and hauling boxes for the Interbike trade show.”

Melancauliflower writes about how to keep things on an even keel while setting up for a trade-show.

“So as often is the case with trade shows, you show up early, hoping to get things done for set-up and run into inevitable snags that grind things to a screeching halt. After seven or eight years of this, you develop a sense for these things and come up with things kill a couple hours while waiting for issues to get resolved.”

Online bicycle and bike gear retailer Jenson USA has a booth, and a blogger, at Interbike. It sounds like the staff is spending its time checking out products at the show.
