I suppose if you don't want to watch OLN's umpteenth rebroadcast of the Stage 14 of the Tour de France on Sunday night, there's always ESPN's ESPY Awards with guest host Lance Armstrong.
I'm sure I won't be spoiling anything if I tell you Armstrong wins Best Male Athlete of the Year. The event happened Wednesday night and plenty of reporters filed stories.
The story in Forbes online talks about Armstrong cracking a joke about skier Bode Miller. “Bode Miller is here, totally sober. He only drinks when he races.”
Who writes his stuff?
The Daily Dish at the SFGate talks about movie-star-celebrity-Texas-buddy Matthew McConaughey being present to make margaritas (Armstrong calls them “'ritas”) backstage. Not a sports drink.
This is the fourth time Armstrong has won the Best Male Athlete Award, but the first time he's been around to accept it. Previously, he'd been pedaling in the Tour de France.
By the way, the coolest award at the ceremony was “Best Moment”; that went to Jason McElwain, the autistic manager of his high school basketball team in Upstate New York who subbed into a game and scored 20 points in four minutes. He beat Kobe Bryant's 81-point game last season.
