Lance Armstrong, Nike, iPod and a shoe that talks

Remember Don Adams as Agent 86 and his shoe phone? “Would you believe” that Nike and Apple have formed a partnership to create a shoe that talks?

Retired bicycle racer Lance Armstrong was on hand in New York City recently to present the Nike+ running shoe.

The shoe holds a sensor in a pocket in the instep, and sends a wireless signal to a receiver attached to an iPod. The user can see the distance, time, calories burned and pace measured on a screen or hear it on the iPod headphones.

Nike CEO Mark Parker and Apple CEO Steve Jobs — both old enough to have watched “Get Smart” on TV — announced the partnership.

Armstrong, who is training for the Nov. 5 New York City marathon, said the information will help athletes train better.

I know what Armstrong's Nike+ is going to tell him if he doesn't win the race.

“Missed it by that much!”

Thanks to AppleInsider for the news and Wouldyoubelieve.com for the memories of “Get Smart.”
