Bike on weekends where “they” drive Monday-Friday in Seattle

Lake Washington Boulevard in Seattle is closed to cars for 10 weekend days this spring and summer. Bicyclists can ride the scenic route between Mount Baker Beach and Seward Park — an 8-mile round trip — on selected Saturdays and Sundays beginning today.

“Bicycle Saturdays and Sundays” is not a place for hammer heads who are trying to set a personal best time trial. Think of getting the family out on their bikes; see and be seen; make new friends.

Lake Washington is closed to vehicles between 10 a.m. and 6 p.m. on the following Saturdays — May 13 (today), June 10, July 8, August 12, and September 9; and Sundays — May 21, June 18, July 16, August 20, September 17.

The Cascade Bicycle Club Education Foundation is on hand at Seward Park from 1-4 p.m. on every date to fit and sell $10 bicycle helmets.

The Skiforall Foundation also has adaptive bicycles there occasionally for disabled persons or their families that are interested in a test drive.

The event is sponsored by Group Health and the Seattle Parks and Recreation Department.
