“At the moment I would say it has to be (Ivan) Basso. However it is tough to say what could happen in the coming six weeks. … I originally picked (Jan) Ullrich to win the Tour de France but he seems to be behind again. If he's only five kilograms overweight that's pretty good for him but I don't understand him, he has so much to gain. I don't know if he loves the bike or not but he could be the biggest sporting star in Germany.”
Lance Armstrong talking about his new favorite to win the Tour de France. Originally, Armstrong — who retired after last year's Tour — chose 1997 winner Ullrich to win again in 2006. Armstrong thought Ullrich looked fit and trim at T-Mobile's team presentation early this spring. But Ullrich suffered a knee injury that sidelined him and he's just getting back into cycling. Now, he's not so sure about Ullrich and favors Basso. VeloNews, May 9, 2006
How about the chances of Floyd Landis or George Hincapie. Isn't it possible for another American to win?
