American Chris Horner is in the yellow jersey after Thursday's Stage 2 of the Tour de Romandie.

The 34-year-old bicycle racer from Bend, Oregon, enabled his team, Davitamon-Lotto, to win its second stage in as many days in the week-long bike race around the western part of Switzerland.

Horner, notable for winning the first-ever Tour de Georgia, must like Switzerland; he won a mountaintop stage in last year's Tour de Suisse.

Thursday stage's featured two Category 1 climbs in a 106-mile loop into the mountains around Porrentruy. Former race leader Paolo Savoldelli of Discovery nearly caught Horner on a descent, but finished about 8 seconds behind.

That margin was enough for the Italian to lose the race leader's jersey, placing 7 seconds behind in the overall standings. Spaniard Alejandro Valverde (Caisse d'Epargne-Illes Balears) is in third place, just nine seconds behind.

On Monday, Australian sprinter Robbie McEwen won Stage 1, giving Davitamon-Lotto its first win in major European race this season.

And where's Jan Ullrich, who is using this race to get back into shape after a knee injury early in the season. He's 117th about of 156 riders overall.
