League of American Bicyclists helps cyclists find “it”

The League of American Bicyclists has updated its website, and one of the coolest features is a search page called FindIt.

Member and nonmember cyclists can go to this page to search for local advocacy groups, bicycle clubs, bike shops, instructors and certification seminars, bike education courses, and league rides and events.

For instance, I learned that there are 12 bicycle shops within 10 miles of my zip code area; three club headquarters (not including the Cascade Bicycling Club) and five bicycling instructors.

Where I grew up in the Cincinnati 'burbs, there was no such thing as a bike shop or a club. Now I find there are two bike clubs and one bike federation (don't really know the difference), and 10 bike shops. The oldest shop dates from 1976, so I might have been correct about the lack of bicycle shops in my youth. (I think we got my bike at Silverton Hardware.)

The rest of the LAB website also has been redesigned. There are news features right on the entry page covering recent hot topics for bicycling.

The most recent regards San Diego DJ Rick Roberts who took some cheap shots against bicyclists, although he stopped short of promoting violence against them, as some have done. Read more about it, and listen to the original broadcast. Also read the station manager's response to the controversy.
