Anton Groenewald, organizer of South Africa's Cape Argus Pick 'N Pay Cycle Tour, explaining the injuries in the world's largest timed cycling event. The 68-mile bike race drew more than 31,000 participants this year. One, a 60-year-old man from Johannesburg, suffered a heart attack on a climb and died in the hospital. Other serious injuries included four fractured skulls, a broken shoulder, a broken arm, a broken pelvis and a broken hip bone.
Steffen Radochia of Germany won the race in 2 hours 34 minutes; the female race winner was Anri'tte Schoeman.
