Give yourself a break from sappy Christmas reruns on TV Thursday night. Pour yourself a pastis and enjoy two Lance Armstrong specials on the Travel Channel (Dec. 22).
One features fans chasing Lance, the other highlights Lance touring France.
Lance Armstrong fanatics will probably relate to “Chasing Lance: A Fans Story.”
The TourofTexas blog says the docureality show features a group of fans following Armstrong during the Tour de France. The producer, Bill Delano, told TourofTexas that the piece “will forever stand as testament to what two friends can do with a camcorder, computer, and a dream.”
According to TV Guide: “Join five Americans on an emotion packed thrill ride as they chase the Tour all around France supporting their hero in his seventh and final ride.”
(This travel film shouldn't be confused with the book, chasinglance'>”Chasing Lance: The 2005 Tour de France and Lance Armstrong's Ride of a Lifetime,” by Martin Dugard.
The book is another fan's perspective on Armstrong's last bicycle race and the challenges he faced along the way. Although some reviewers at Amazon loved it, others found it to be too much about Dugard and not enough about how the race unfolded.)
The other travel feature is “Lance's France: The Traveler's Guide.” The Travel Channel's blurb explains: “Explore both iconic and unknown spots where Lance Armstrong and the Discovery Team would love to stop – if they could.”
This second one must have been a tough sell, considering everything that Lance has been through since the L'Equipe doping allegations arose.
Keep checking the Travel Channel listings if you miss these specials tonight. I'm sure they'll be run again. Also, be warned that the Travel Channel is owned the Discovery Channel, which sponsors Armstrong's team, the Discovery Channel Pro Cycling Team.
